I have been training with Victor Candal for 8 years now, and it has truly changed my life for the better. I'm proud to call Mr Candal my friend as well as my professor for Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
I first found out about Candal's through the city of Anaheim a little over a thirteen months ago. I wanted to try it to see if I could do martial arts or not because I am not a very physical fit person for my age. I found that training there has piqued my interest in the martial arts and it has helped to build my confidence. It is a great place for both adults and kids to learn the martial arts. The students and the instructors there are very friendly and helpful. If you do not believe me then try it for yourself and you be the judge as a free class is offered.
Love this place! I bring my 5 year old daughter she loves it! Mr. Candal is so good with the kids! My daughter has learned so much in a short amount of time. My husband also does jiu jitsu here as well and loves it!
I am brand new to jiu jitsu, I went to a strictly Muy Thai gym a couple years ago and decided it was time to train again so I went to an a MMA gym ( not going to say name out respect ) I thought I was going to train Muy Thai and train jiu jitsu periodically but quite the opposite happened when I got rolled up like a pretzel! I then became obsessed with jiu jitsu. As my need to learn grew I wasn't getting my jiu jitsu needs met. Long story short I wanted to hone in on my jiu jitsu skills and discovered victor candals gym. He helped me do exactly that, growing up in the military and Being raised in a military family I am a firm believer in Training like your life depends on it because it does "train like you fight" and that's exactly what victor teaches, also while maintaining an ego free environment. This is a family owned business and family oriented gym the students here are all very great people of all ages and walks of life, victor promotes a healthy lifestyle physically spiritually and mentally. I give this place two thumbs up.
Martial Arts started out as an adventure in a new form of physical exercise for me. However, it ended up being much more than that. The idea of doing some kind of martial art is something we all dream of, we all want to be Bruce Lee, Jet Li or Jackie Chan, but not everybody is ready for the work involved. It was soon apparent that I didn't have the speed, power, or grace that I thought I had. But I did have a school full of students and an instructor that taught me to work on what I have, and the rest will come. Working at my pace and to the best of my ability I was able to advance to "Yellow Belt." This was one of the proudest moments for me, as I felt that I was now on my way to succeeding in a sport that was also a lifestyle.Martial Arts is more than just self protection, but also the blueprint for a way of life that will serve us, and help us to attain all the goals we seek.
Self esteem, working in a positive atmosphere, rewards for a job well done, better grades and family harmony are only a few of the rewards gained. The overall rewards are what you as an individual learn.
You learn to listen, how else can we hear other opinions, thoughts and ideas? We learn respect, knowing the "golden rule" is one thing, to practice it another. We learn to work in a group. As a group member we all must work together to achieve a common goal. We learn that we control our life and what we learn and practice now is a step toward the reward that life will bestow on us.
It has been a great pleasure to work with some of the greatest students and instructors we have at Candal's Martial Arts Academy. Over the years I've watched shy kids, kids with low self esteem, kids that were on the brink of going the wrong way, all come together and work together to become role models of all others. I've seen kids with bad grades, become honor roll students, shy students coming out of their shells and passing on knowledge to others.
As an older student, I've never felt that I had to stay up with the younger, I just have to do the best that I can. I have learned things from the youngest and lowest belt, to the oldest and highest belt. Martial Arts teaches us that there is no failure, only lessons to be learned and nobody has ever succeeded without learning a lesson. Martial Arts gives us the tools for success. Confidence, self esteem, respect, knowledge and the desire to improve ourselves and the people around us. We may not see ourselves as role models, but everybody else does.
I've been studying martial arts with Victor Candal for almost 5 years. His instruction has benefited me in so many ways. I have gained physical strength and endurance and improved my balance while striving to earn my Black Belt. One of the greater benefits of martial arts is the self-discipline that you learn to apply. Not only has it helped me in martial arts, but in every aspect of my life. Learning self defense has given me the confidence to defend myself in any situation.Master Victor is an instructor who teaches with care and concern for his students. I believe his training is beneficial for women of all ages.
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Pa Kua was something I've wanted to do for a long time, but I always thought I was too old and too out of shape to try it until Larry invited my friend and me to check out Candal's Martial Arts Academy. The goal I had was to lose weight, increase strength, and increase flexibility. When I first started, I weighed in at 215 pounds. Three months later, I was introduced to the raw foods diet by Master Victor Candal. After 7 ½ weeks, I am down to 192 pounds. Not only did I lose the weight, my stamina has increased to a higher level and my muscles are firmer compared to before I started. Now, I am super healthy.Thank you Master Victor and everyone at Candal Martial Arts Academy for giving me the motivation to keep coming! I love you all.
